Congratulations to Dr. Irene Stavrou! Global Educators of the Year

Many youths want to change the world, but their success often depends on the support and guidance of a caring advisor. As we wrap up the school year, we would like to highlight the educators who have gone above and beyond to help global-minded teens to connect their passion with action.

Under Dr. Stavrou's guidance, the BWB Club at the Junior & Senior Schools, Cyprus, built a sustainable Christmas tree for the school hall using recycled milk cartons; organized a book drive and donated the books to the children's library at a local hospital; and conducted a bake sale fundraiser for a local NGO that provides therapy for children with rare genetic diseases. Through these actions, the Club students generated awareness of SDGs at school and made a real impact in their community. (Click on TJSS' lightbox for the full report.)

Dr. Irene Stavrou - Biology Teacher, The Junior & Senior School, Cyprus

"When I first took on the responsibility of the BWB club I wasn't sure what to expect. But the student members of the BWB club were such an inspiration to me that I couldn't imagine not being by their side to support them in all their amazing efforts to make our school and wider community a better place. I'm grateful that GED and the BWB club gave my students the unique opportunity to develop and show their leadership, organizational and communication skills, challenge them to find solutions to various social issues, have fruitful discussions and to participate in Global Chats and Forums with other BWB clubs around the globe. I'm in awe of the motivation my students have and the 'can-do' attitude they hold. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to achieve our goals and make a difference in our community."

All around the world, Buddies Without Borders students are conducting Local Actions to meet Global Goals. Vote for your favorite project - Your vote acknowledges the efforts of the youth who have worked hard to help make the world a better place.

We encourage more change-makers to step up this summer - we are mobilizing teens to solve the global water crisis: AquaAlliance Online Forum - application deadline: June 23.
