Think Globally and Act Locally

On August 31, Buddies Without Borders Club students wrapped up the school year with many Local Action Projects to meet our joint Global Goals. Everyone was invited to vote for their favorite BWB Club based on creativity, SDG relevance, and communication. The Best Club was announced by Dr. Jamie Schlais, a former CAS curriculum manager for the International Baccalaureate (IB):
Voted the Best Club: Secondhand book exchange, Taipei Private Tsai Hsing High School, Taiwan - led by student Patricia Lin. Moderated by Research & Development Director Ms. Wendy Lee and History Teacher Mr. Randolph Kao;
Voted the Best Club in the 2025-2026 School Year: Taipei Private Tsai Hsing High School, Taiwan Voted Top Five: Local food distribution and international fundraising, The Walker School, Georgia, USA - led by student Alexa Campos. Moderated by Dr. Lynn Murray;
Voted Top Five: Water conservation workshops and awareness campaign, Amman National School, Jordan - led by student Rivana Helal. Moderated by Ms. Ruba Abu Rshaid;
Voted Top Five: Community-building annual event on campus, Green Bay High School, New Zealand - led by students Krisha Karippail and Bella Wood. Moderated by GATE Coordinator, Ms. Sylvie Howell;
Voted Top Five: Healthy food for stray cats, BINUS Simprug, Indonesia - led by student Anushka Pradeep Varrier. Moderated by Action Coordinator, Ms. Elisabeth Tan Yanti;
Solar lamp distribution, Tema International School, Ghana - led by student Bruhan-Deen Hussein. Moderated by Mr. Michael Ansah;
Animal welfare awareness, Vali Muammer Güler Sosyal Bilimler Lisesi, Turkiye - led by students Gülbeyaz Ceylin Gündoğdu and Elif Duruş. Moderated by English Teacher Mr. Özkan Akduğan;
Food bank collections, Los Sauces European School, Spain - led by student Maya Rex. Moderated by English Teacher Ms. Myriam Gil;
Breast cancer fundraising and awareness event, Strawberry Field High School, India - led by student Sumayah Mittal. Moderated by IB teachers Ms. Aditi Satyapal and Ms. Geeta Passi;
Water bottle recycling, Towheed Iranian School in the UAE - led by students Pouya Mortezaei and Huda Zahra. Moderated by Ms. Negin Saadat Ghodsi Nia;
Garden and beach clean-up in Galapagos, Ecuador - led by student Roxana Sacasari

Through the creation and execution of these Local Action Projects, students learn people and time management skills, as well as the importance of securing support and approvals. We also welcomed Deborah Ezekiel as the new Global Community Coordinator for the Bodies Without Borders club for the 2026 to 2027 academic year.
