The last blog post of the year is a personal love story. I have been spending the last few months staying in Taiwan to be with my mom who is dealing with the grief of losing my dad, losing her memories and her acuity. Today, I wrap up the year 2021 with a thousand thanks to her and everyone who has given their love to my story:
Love is letting your only daughter get married to the man of her choice even if it means you will only see her infrequently for the rest of your life.
Love is supporting your beloved spouse being away for months for her parent, even if it means that you will be celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year without her.
Love is bringing clothes, food and drinks for your sibling to make sure she is comfortable even if it is way past your bedtime.
Love is showing up for your high school classmates after 40 years of absence even if it means that you are taking extra time off from a busy work schedule.
Love is reaching out to see the world from a different point of view without fear, to listen with sympathy, to share with kindness.
Today I also set my intention for 2022:
When I see a problem, I will focus on an actionable solution.
When I find a solution, I will follow through with a to-do list.
When there are unexpected twists and turns, I will remind myself that there are indefinite ways of living a good life.
When there is an opportunity for a new adventure, I will be the first in line.
When I have a chance to share my love with someone, I will embrace the opportunity.
My life story will be a love story. What is yours?
