Many people want to change the world, but those with creativity and dedication are the ones who stand out.
Throughout the year, BWB Club members earn recognition points by initiating and implementing local change projects, conducting intercultural communication through Global Chats, Club Meet-ups, and SDG Interest Groups. Today, we want to highlight the DIS BWB Club in the Philippines.
Students Nayeon Koo (Kayla) and Adrinna Yao lead the BWB Club at
Domuschola International School, Philippines. The Club is moderated by Ms. Sarah Mondoy, OIC and Guidance.
"We thought of ways to get people to donate and came up with a competition between classes in our school. The class that donated the most would get free Potato Corner (french fries) from us. This plan worked and we were able to gather over 200 donations. These donations were sent out to Library Hub Philippines who then distributed these donations all across the nation to children in need...
Our second project was an orphanage visit. Through this, we aimed to foster the mental and physical well-being of neglected children, so that they’d feel that some people genuinely care for them... On the visiting date, we hosted a fun program in Tagalog, our native language, for the kids to enjoy. One of our club members also sponsored us with a rice bowl meal for everyone, so with full stomachs and unforgettable memories, the event ended successfully.
We ended the school year planning our next possible local action project, a beach clean-up. With proper planning and collaboration with outside organizations, we hope to be able to travel to a beach, conduct a clean-up, and interact with and send donations to the children in that province."
