Local Action in New Zealand - Vote for Your Favorite BWB Club
Friends are more than important to our mental health; they actually make the world go round. At its core, a community is a network of friendships, and building this community is essential for any social effort. By communicating and collaborating with peers who have similar interests, we can develop projects that are well-supported, significant, and have a higher chance of success.
The BWB Club at Green Bay High School in Auckland, New Zealand decided to focus on community building this year for their Local Action Project. It was led by students Krisha Karippail and Bella Wood, and moderated by Gifted and Talented Education Coordinator, Sylvie Howell.
"Our Local Action Project this year was establishing a Club Expo/Muster Day at our school as an annual event. Having piloted it in 2025, we established dates, location, and logistical systems for the event going forward and confirmed with our school’s Senior Leadership Team that these details would be carried forward every year. The Expo involved every club/group in the school creating promotional material that we combined into a massive display in our school’s library and auditorium foyer. We held it during Student ID photos - 2 days in which the whole school passes through this location, meaning every student in the school saw these. We saw even better reception than last year, with more visitor traffic, interest, and many clubs reporting increased membership following the event."
