Broaden Our Horizon - Reflection from a Top Finisher

Broadening our international horizons is increasingly important in today’s interconnected world. Engaging with different cultures and viewpoints helps us understand and appreciate the variety of human experiences, especially the need for clean energy. It is only through collaboration that we can find an effective solution moving forward.

Mahsa Raeissi Goudoei, one of the Top Five Finishers, is an Iranian student living in the UAE. She worked with teammates from the USA, Brazil and Ecuador in the Power for a Better Future Buddies Without Borders Online Forum, representing China. Mahsa reflected on her experience of broadening her horizon during the months-long collaboration and competition:

"...This was my first time doing something like this and it was really nice to switch between being different delegates and seeing how everyone thinks. At first I didnt know much but I grew really interested in how renewable energy works and the whole idea of peaking carbon emissions. It is a big topic but it was cool to learn how countries actually try to change.

The teamwork was probably the best part even though most of my meetings was really late at night. It was a bit hard to stay awake sometimes but it was worth it to talk to people from all over. It really showed me what international mindedness is like when you have to put everyones ideas together. I feel like I grew a lot more confident since the start and I learned how to explain my thoughts better. Even with me transferring schools mid year I am so happy I stayed committed to the forum and did the research. Being named as one of the top five representatives was a huge shock but it made me feel really good about my work. I think I understand way more now about how the world can move toward a better future. It was a lot of fun and I'm glad I got to be part of something so big and significant!" ~ Mahsa Raeissi Goudoei
